Journal prompts for emotional healing

Journaling can be a powerful tool for survivors of sexual assault to process their emotions, thoughts, and experiences.

Here are some journal prompts designed to support emotional healing:

1. Describe a moment when you felt safe and supported. What made you feel that way? How can you recreate that feeling in your life now?

2. What emotions are you experiencing right now? Try to name them and explore where they might be coming from.

3. Write a letter to your younger self, offering comfort, advice, and words of encouragement.

4. What does healing look like to you? What steps can you take today to move towards that vision?

5. Reflect on a time when you felt empowered. What were you doing, and how can you incorporate more of that into your life now?

6. List three things you love about yourself. How can you nurture and celebrate these qualities?

7. Write down a mantra or affirmation that resonates with you. Repeat it to yourself throughout the day.

8. Explore a safe space in your imagination. Describe it in detail. How does it make you feel?

9. What are some self-care activities that bring you comfort and peace? How can you incorporate them into your routine?

10. Reflect on moments of resilience in your life. What strengths and qualities helped you get through those times?

11. What boundaries do you need to set in your life to feel safe and respected? How can you communicate and enforce them?

12. Consider your support system. Who are the people who lift you up and make you feel heard? How can you lean on them for support?

13. Write a letter to someone who has supported you in your healing journey. Express your gratitude and let them know how much their support means to you.

14. Reflect on the progress you've made since the assault. What small victories have you achieved? Celebrate them.

15. Explore ways to practice self-compassion. How can you treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer to a friend?

16. What activities or hobbies have you always been curious about? Consider trying one out as a way to explore new interests and build confidence.

17. Write down one thing you want to let go of, whether it's a negative belief, a painful memory, or a toxic relationship. How can you begin the process of release?

18. What are some qualities you admire in yourself? How can you nurture and cultivate these qualities moving forward?

19. Visualize a future where you feel strong, whole, and at peace. What steps can you take today to move closer to that future?

20. Reflect on moments of self-love and self-acceptance. What practices or mindset shifts can you implement to cultivate more of this in your life?

✦ Remember, journaling is a personal practice, so feel free to modify or skip prompts that don't resonate with you. It's important to approach this process with gentleness and self-compassion.
